What is Precision Rifle: Competition Preparation?

Precision Rifle Competition Preparation is designed for shooters of all levels to evaluate and train on series of exercises and drills, commonly seen in today’s precision rifle competitions, to improve your baseline performance for any competition.

Students will engage targets from 200 to 1500 yards away using different courses of fire.

Students that complete the course will have a proficiency in firearm handling under stress conditions, advanced marksmanship fundamentals, a combined knowledge of their personal capabilities with their equipment, and systematic training methods for future progression.

  • What are the key topics that will be covered?

    • Cold bore data and zeroing of the weapon system
    • Positional shooting, prone, standing, kneeling, sitting on and around urban obstacles while stationary and moving under condensed timelines
    • Advanced wind reading
    • Data gathering out to 1200 yards
    • Movers with limited exposure target training (Note: We are working on installing a mover, but it may not be ready by the class date.)
    • Snap and multiple target training under condensed timelines
    • Practical stress events in urban, wooded, and open terrain
    • Shot placement and speed drills
    • Understanding of environmental effects on external ballistics
    • Dissecting and analyzing competition events and the application of scoring well given the shooter abilities
  • What are the class’s gear requirements?

    • Precision rifle capable of shooting 1-inch groups or better at 100 yards (1 MOA)
    • 250 rounds per student of match grade ammunition
    • Quality scope with a MIL or MOA base reticle
    • Bipod
    • Sling
    • Rear bag (and shooting bags if you have them)
    • Wrist coach or data cards
    • Rifle databook or notebooks
    • Pen or pencils
    • Cheap, small basic calculator (you can use your phone but a calculator is easier)
    • Shooting mat
    • Durable backpack or cart to carry all of your equipment
    • Cleaning kit
    • Eye and ear protection
    • Sunscreen and a hat are optional, but we will be spending a lot of time in the sun.
    • Drinks and food. We will be providing lunch and bottled water. If you are on a special diet, please bring your own food and drinks.
    • Highly recommended, but not required:
      – Ballistic engine of your choice
      – Kestrel or windmeter
      – Tripod with the ability to mount to your to it
      – Spotting scope
      – Rangefinder
  • Where is the class being held and what times?

    The class is being held at a private property in Escondido, CA (about a thirty-minute drive from San Diego). Training will held from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. The exact address will be sent to registered students.

  • Can anyone attend the class?

    Students must have completed our Precision Rifle 1 class or similar. Please email info@tacticalhyve.com if you have taken a fundamental precision rifle class elsewhere for approval.

    Students must also be at least 21 years old (unless accompanied by a guardian), and due to the Department of State ITAR regulations, tactical training is only available to US Citizens/Legal Residents.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    • Full refund: 61 or more days from the class
    • 50% refund: Between 31 and 60 days from the class
    • No refund: Within 30 days of the class
